What to know about the West's new efforts to slash Russia's oil revenue

This is your lead up to open hostilities happening right before your eyes.

"The United States and its allies are about to deliver a double blow to Russia aimed at starving its oil revenues.

First, the European Union will ban all seaborne imports of Russian oil, a move that takes effect Monday.

Also, the U.S. and other members of the Group of Seven leading economies will attempt to impose a price cap on the oil Russia continues to sell to other parts of the world. On Friday, the EU tentatively agreed to set a price ceiling at $60 per barrel."

"The two moves are intended to limit Russia's ability to fund its war in Ukraine but are designed to prevent disruptions in oil supplies that could cause higher prices."

"Analysts say the price cap, spearheaded by the U.S. Treasury Department, could be difficult to enforce."

(Ya think?)

"What policymakers are trying to do is cut the world's largest oil exporter out of the market to a large degree," he says. 

(He being Ben Cahill, senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. So ask your selves, if somebody tried to do this to us? What would our response be? And then just assume the Russian response will be worse. This is just an absolutely catastrophic mistake, prices are gonna rise and funding for the war in Ukraine wont be curtailed.)

"The EU sanctions package created concerns that there would be a potential supply shock," Cahill, the energy analyst, says. "And so the proposed price cap is a way to try to keep those volumes on the market, but still curtail Russia's revenue."

Arkady Gevorkyan, a commodity strategist at Citi Research, says India imported very little oil from Russia before the conflict. Now, it's helping fill the Kremlin's coffers, importing about 900,000 barrels a day, which he says is substantial. "That allowed Russians to divert some of the oil initially going to Europe, to India," Gevorkyan says."

"China, India and Turkey have been getting Russian oil at a big discount -- about $20 less per barrel. They'll continue to hammer out a good price if they believe they have leverage once the price cap sets in."

"Cahill says efforts to get countries outside the G-7 on board with the plans have not been successful, in part because they're wary of the complicated plan."

"I think there's also some irritation with Western sanctions and the idea that, you know, the U.S. and the EU are really pushing countries to do this and they're interfering with the global oil market," Cahill adds. "They have a lot of skepticism. And I don't think that India and China will sign the plan and fully endorse it."

The G-7 price cap plan depends heavily on documentation and proof about where the oil on a tanker is coming from and how much it costs.

(Documentation is your enforcement mechanism? People actually believe that's gonna work? The real problem is they (Russia' China etc) have us by the balls and we got no good alternatives to that fact, except documentation enforcement mechanisms?

Michelle Wiese Bockmann, an analyst with London-based Lloyd's List, a maritime news agency, says there's already a lot of illicit oil trade, especially moving sanctioned oil from Iran and Venezuela. She says it involves everything from falsifying documents to clandestine ship-to-ship transfers in the middle of the night."

"The evasion tactics used by Iran and Venezuela can be easily met and borrowed by Russia to continue shipping without that compliance to the price cap," she says. "It's very likely that sanctions evasion is going to be a hallmark of what happens post Dec. 5."

(Count on it.)

"Analysts and officials have warned that the West's new actions could provoke Moscow to retaliate by cutting off remaining natural gas supplies to European countries."

(How about all of it except Turkey, India and China? Then what?)

"Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he will not sell oil to any country that is compliant with the price cap and that Russian oil will find other customers, willing to risk breaking sanctions."

(I do not like him, nor what he does but if you have been paying attention to him through the years? The man does what he says he is going to, and rn we shouldn't expect him to behave any different than normal.)

"Other countries could help him. OPEC+, an alliance of oil producers that Russia co-chairs along with Saudi Arabia, is concerned about the idea of buyers colluding — countries banding together to try to influence the oil market and target certain producers. They worry that if the West can do it to Russia, then it could someday do the same against other oil producers."

(And that is an absolute legitimate concern.)

This is more about Beans (In particular pintos) and Cornbread and my affinity for the aforementioned lol.

Anyway...where to even start?

Okay so I like beans and cornbread. 

I like pintos probably the most butt: butter beans, navy beans, northern beans and even kidney beans will work. I like them how I like them and if I have the opportunity to? Thats how I shall have them, (same with bourbon BTW) if not? Then I make do with what we have. All that being said, I soak my beans overnight after dumping them out and removing any hulls, small pebbles, or any beans that are discolored or cracked. The next day I bring them to a boil in a pot of water with some salt (dont ask, I could show you how much but there's no way I could tell you) a healthy dose of chopped onion I mean 1/2, 2/3 a lbs of finely chopped onion and preferably some ham hock but any kinda cut of pork will do. (I even used spam one time, you would have been surprised, I'll just put it that away.) Ham bone, spam, country ham, whatever ya got if ya dont have a ham hock, and if you dont have a cut of pork? Well then just go with the salt and onion. No onion? Just salt. No salt? Thats a whole nuther story lol. Not our purpose here:-).

Anyway, so? I bring the beans to a rapid boil for a good hour, always watching the pot and adding more water when needed. Then? I turn the heat down to a slow roiling boil and let cook a hour or two...Yup, just like that. I just love em I think they taste great. While the beans are simmering I make my cornbread. Now days given certain constraints I wont go into,  I use a griddle and make cornbread cakes. If I could? I would liberally season a cast iron muffin pan with bacon grease and heat it up in the oven and then put the cornbread batter in it and place back in the oven for the proper amount of time and when they were done, upon removal from the oven? immediately dislodge the muffin from the pan (separate it basically) and let the muffins "breathe" (it wont stick to the muffin pan this way.) And I do this as I start the assembly process of my meal. I dont have a cast iron muffin pan so I use my griddle and make cornbread cakes, like I say, adjust, adapt, overcome, etc...

Here's the whole key:

I take my hot off the griddle cornbread and I ladle my slow cooked and seasoned beans over it right then. Not 5 minutes later, not a minute later, hot cornbread right off the griddle smothered in beans, salt, ham, onion right that instant...

Oh my goodness so good...

For well over 6? 7? years I hadn't had beans and cornbread that away. My mom used bacon grease and salt to season hers but rarely if ever a big chunk of pig. I like mine slow cooked with and with a big chuck of pig and some salt and a ton of finely chopped onion.

Point is?

I went years and never had as much.

I went years and never had everything I liked all at the same time.

I had beans but no ham, ham but no onion, beans with onion salt and pig, but no cornbread, cornbread but no eggs, had cornbread and eggs, but no milk etc. In the course of the last few years, 6, 7 who knows how long at this point, but I had had every possible combination of everything you could ever have it, but I never had it all all at once like I prefer :-). Needless to say a lil while back that all came to fruition. 

So?

The greater point is:

How happy are you going to be to have a simple meal of beans and cornbread (or anything else for that matter) when the time comes? Will you be grateful for what you do have? Or will you be bitter about what you don't?

Country is going down the tubes anyway, Corporations are jacking up their prices to get every last cent they can while they still can, why shouldn't labor do the same?

The government and the railroad exec might as well be the same team, Tony Cardwell gets it just right.

They wouldn't have to strike two days before they would agree to their demands.

“What’s frustrating is that the railroads know that their backstop is federal government intervening in a strike,” said Tony Cardwell, president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, one of the four unions that rejected the tentative agreement. “The railroads would have come running to the bargaining table if they knew that we would have been able to go on strike. But they were reliant on the Congress stopping our strike, and therefore they bargained in bad faith.”

(So strike anyway, (unjust laws have an obligation to be broken MLK JR once said.) Do it once and you will never be faced with this situation ever again. Dont do it now and you are stuck with it forever.

“As Russia's invasion of Ukraine ends a post-Cold War era of low tension and cooperation”… This January, one of two fibre-optic cables on the Arctic seabed connecting Svalbard to the mainland was severed. Norway was forced to rely on a back-up link."

"In April 2021, another cable – one used by a Norwegian research laboratory to monitor activity on the Arctic seafloor – was ripped away."

(Nord stream pipeline explosion anybody?)

“Over recent years, NATO allies and Russia have scaled up military exercises in the region; Chinese and Russian warships conducted a joint exercise in the Bering Sea in September. Norway raised its military alert level in October.”

(The Bering Sea is a marginal sea of the Northern Pacific Ocean. It forms, along with the Bering Strait, the divide between the two largest landmasses on Earth: Eurasia and The Americas. It comprises a deep water basin, which then rises through a narrow slope into the shallower water above the continental shelves. Wikipedia. Yeah...The Chinese and the Russians held joint exercises there in Sept...think about it for a second, you'll figure it out.)

Those labor pains getting farter apart? or closer together? More intense? Or less intense? What time do you really think its getting ready to be?)

(Understood, but the fact that monitoring cables/links etc. are getting severed tells you somebody doesn't want you to know what they are doing and the ice melting in the artic gives the Russians even more mineral and oil field in its territory.)

Of all the ways for this industry to come to it's end?

Higher interest rates = less investment.

Lower prices are gonna be its undoing.

And we wont know what effect the price cap on Russian oil will be but I think we can all reasonably expect it to not be a very good outcome.

They have had since Sept to get it in place (Russian oil price cap), nobody can agree on what the price should be and India and China aren't gonna go along with it so it's not gonna matter anyway, its about to be a big mess...yeah...even more so than it already is...

(You're watchin the signal but you're missing the freight train in the process of doing so. This is the exact reason they did the SPR drawdown. because 1) it was an aid to the economy, but it was tactical for this exact reason, "It is the main signal consumers notice."

It wasn't "strategic" because were gonna need it against China and Russia, we should have been willing to take the hit economically and been preparing for what we know is coming: War in the pacific, and probably be drug into Europe at the same time. Meanwhile we announcing locations of our Ohio class subs rn? SPR drawdown did what it was designed to do, get everybody to feel better, but puts us in a bad place militarily. Which is what China and Russian knew it would do, they knew how we would respond and we sure did exactly what they thought we would.

"Give consumers the wrong idea." Look at what I just said above. It was exactly the plan and it has worked like a charm. But the thing is? there weren't any better options. Whats that tell you?

("For now" are the most important words in that sentence and tell you what you should expect in the future if you think about it.)

(Center for Strategic and International Studies. Its one of only a handful of groups that seem to get it right consistently for decades now. Others might fluctuate so to speak than more than they do.)

"Also helping keep prices low at the moment are some key U.S. oil refineries that returned to churning out gasoline after months of being out of commission for maintenance and repairs."

"But just as big a factor is the turmoil in China. As its leaders signal that new coronavirus lockdowns are imminent, touching off protests throughout the country, the expected economic fallout has turned oil traders bearish."

(Its the biggest factor, they were wanting to cut orders from the Saudis a while back.)

"China alone accounted for 16 percent of global oil demand last year, according to the research firm Capital Economics, which projects its purchase of oil will drop by 1 million barrels per day in December as coronavirus infections spread. The effect of such a drop on global oil markets is considerable, reducing the price of Brent crude by as much as $10 a barrel, or more than 10 percent."

(Thats pretty much what I would count on at this point. I said very early on that's exactly what he would do, "cutting off its supply". When everybody else was saying he wouldn't invade? I was saying he would cut off his own oil supply. Because he wouldn't have invaded if he wasn't willing to cut off his supply.

"Another wild card is the OPEC Plus consortium of oil-producing nations, which meets next week to consider how much oil its members should continue to ship in the coming months. The group could decide to cut its output to drive prices up."

(It was really the only thing he tripped me up on and didn't have an answer readily available for but I knew his assertion that the Holy Spirit didn't have a "personality" and therefore not a part of the trinity was way off the mark.

I dont always agree with all of their explanations on the website gotquestions.org,  but I have found it a valuable place to start looking for more information on many topics, and? This verse just happened to be in Pastor Bridgette's sermon last Sunday so...there ya go...

We just really need to understand our faith more fully and :

"Inflation rose in October about in line with estimates, sending a sign that price increases at least might be stabilizing, the Commerce Department reported Thursday."

(Yeah..."at least", "might be", "stabilizing" notice it didn't say receding or going down?)

"The core personal consumption expenditures price index, a gauge that excludes food and energy and is favored by the Federal Reserve, rose 0.2% for the month and was up 5% from a year ago. The monthly increase was below the 0.3% Dow Jones estimate, while the annual gain was in line.

Russian oil sanctions are about to kick in. And they could disrupt markets in a big way

("China and India picked up the pace of Russian oil purchases following the invasion but in Sept the EU's energy chief "was hoping"? China and India would go along with a price cap mechanism?)

“China and India are crucial as they buy the bulk of Russian oil,” Jacob Kirkegaard, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute For International Economics, told CNBC.

“They won’t commit, however, for political reasons, as the cap is a U.S.-sponsored policy and [for] commercial reasons, as they already get a lot of cheap oil from Russia, so why jeopardize that? Thinking they would voluntarily join was always naive as Ukraine is not that important to them.”

(And somebody told you: "The world is going to want Russia's oil and minerals more than it's going to care about Ukraines freedom." right after hostilities were initiated. Who was that? How is that even possible? I've already said, Haggai 2:23.)

"India’s petroleum minister, Shri Hardeep S Puri, told CNBC in September he has a “moral duty” to his country’s consumers. “We will buy oil from Russia, we will buy from wherever,” he added."

"As such, there are growing doubts about the true impact of the restrictions on Russia."

(The only thing it is gonna do is drive up prices and not harm the Russians in any meaningful sense whatsoever. Just plain foolishness. This thing was doomed before it ever started. "We want your oil we just dont wanna pay you what you think we should for it, or, "We want your oil we just dont want you to be able to fund your war with the proceeds." It's just ludacris and gonna send markets crazy when they try and implement it. Dec 5th BTW. Yup.
