Nite

Love you.

"hey

so get that cheese grater Going against the grain"

"The

men at the factory are old and cunning
You don't owe nothing, so boy get running
It's the best years of your life they want to steal"

Yeah, I was listening to this right around the same time as I read that Thoreau quote:-).
Fifteen years old :-).

:-)

"The

only band that matters."

There

is a difference.
A big difference.

con·fi·dent
ˈkänfədənt/
adjective

1.feeling or showing confidence in oneself; self-assured.
"she was a confident, outgoing girl"

synonyms: self-assured, assured, self-confident, positive, assertive, self-possessed, self-reliant,poised;
cool headed, phlegmatic, levelheaded, unperturbed, imperturbable, unruffled,at ease;
informal together, can-do
"a confident young man"

ar·ro·gant
ˈerəɡənt/
adjective

having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities.
"he's arrogant and opinionated"

synonyms: haughty, conceited, self-important, egotistic, full of oneself, superior;
overbearing, pompous, bumptious, presumptuous, imperious, overweening;
proud, immodest;
informal high and mighty, too big for one's britches, too big for one's boots, big-headed, puffed up;
rare hubristic
"success has made him arrogant"

I think a lot of times people say arrogant when what they really mean is confident.

If I was arrogant?
I wouldn't have worked at
Hillbilly's or as a general laborer for Ricky and Karen.
I would have seen it as beneath me.
I never did.
Not once.
I was however, confident in my ability to at least become proficient enough at whatever task was at hand to make it worthwhile for whoever was paying me.
Again, big difference.

This olympian who won a gold medal was being interviewed and she stated, "I knew who was going to win the race."
People were just aghast at her for saying it.
I'm like, "What in the world do you people want her to say?"
"Here's what may be my one shot at being the best in the world at something, I hope I do good"?
Hell no you don't want her saying that, I mean what is the point in getting on the starting block to begin with if you don't think you're going to win?

There's this NASCAR driver, pretty much the same thing.
Young guy.
Already won a series points championship.
He's won as many races this year as anybody.
Twice as many as most of the other winners this year.
He's kind of a jerk but that's another story.
The guy is confident all things being equal that he can out drive anyone out there.
If you were a team owner?
You're gonna pour millions into a NASCAR Team?
Who do you want drivin for you?
The guy that says. "I'll do as good as I can for you."?
Or the guy that says, "I'm the best driver out there, give me a good team and good equipment and let me prove it to you."?
I know which one I'm hiring if I'm that team owner.

They interviewed Emmitt Smith who used to be a running back for the Cowboys.
I could be wrong but I believe it was in the preseason of his rookie year.
He was a good running back coming out of Fla and the press were asking about his goals.
He said he wanted to break Walter Payton's all time rushing mark.
This was seen as sacrilege.
This record in particular was seen by many as unbreakable.
The league had changed it's rules to become more pass-happy.
Teams scoring more often put more fans in the seats and better ratings on TV.
People thought, "Who the hell is this rookie to be talking about breaking Walter Payton's all time rushing mark? He hasn't even played one down in a regular season game yet."
Guess what?
Yeah, he went on and did the impossible and broke Walter's record.

SRV played Hendrix's Voodoo Chile (slight return).
Went so far as to record it and release it on a record.
Nobody played Hendrix, let alone records it and releases it on a record.
I mean nobody.
Again, it was considered sacrilege.
Well guess what?
He did it alright and by most accounts out Hendrixed Hendrix in the process.
One of those rare instances where the cover is better than the original.

So there are a couple of points to consider here:
Would any of these people went on to accomplish what they managed to accomplish if they didn't think they could to start with?
Doubtful.
You're beat before you start if that's the case.

If you don't have confidence in yourself?
Who else is going to?
Don't hold it against the people that do.
That's not their problem.
That's your problem.
Go find ya some self-confidence somewhere.
I guarantee you it's in you if you look long hard and often enough.
People just don't wanna do the damn work to find it if you ask me Lucy.

Love you.

1 Corinthians 13:7

1 Corinthians 13:7

I

was the only person in my entire High School (over 1200+ students) with this record.
I promise you nobody in my class or the junior class had it and if a sophomore or freshman had it surely somebody would have said something to me.

Clark wallabee desert boots, Levis, cords and an army surplus jacket bought at the flea market for five bucks, with Clash pin on it :-).
The flea market is the same one Nich and Janet like to go to.

Louisville in 1979-80 was about 15-20 years behind the times.
Hippies still ruled.
Punk came out.
All I knew was I liked it.
Loved the energy.
Loved the blues, the straight ahead rockers, reggae, dub, ska, this record seemed like it had everything. It introduced me to so many genres of music I had never heard of.
I didn't even know what they were at the time, like I say, I just knew I liked it.
Train in Vain barely cracked the top forty; they thought so little of it it wasn't even listed on the credits, last song on side four lol.

Now, when I got to WKU?
Lots of people knew this record:-).

"I

fought the law and the law won."

"Some

is rich, and some is poor
That's the way the world is
But I don't believe in lying back
Sayin' how bad your luck is"

"If

you can play on the fiddle
How's about a British jig and reel?"

I'm

like Larry Bird headin' down the court lookin' at the opposing team's coach (you) sayin':
"You better get somebody on me, I'm gonna go for sixty tonight".

Bahahahahahahahahaha

Mornin'

Beautiful :-).

Love you.

That's it?
That's all y'all got?
I'm dyin' over here lol.
I'm ready to go three more rounds and all y'all (emphasis on all) are falling by the wayside :-).

Y'all like Apollo Creed over in the corner shaking his head in disbelief and I'm like Rocky over in the other corner wavin' you in.
"Come on.
Bring it?
Whatcha waitin' on?"

You do know when Rocky hit Apollo with the three left hooks to the body (the ones he just happened to master at his girlfriend's brothers meat shop on animal carcusses) he broke Apollo's ribs don't you?

Y'all killin me at this point.
I mean as in laughing hysterically.

Love

you.

"Book Of Dreams"

"I'm standing in the backyard
Listening to the party inside
Tonight I'm drinkin' in the forgiveness
This life provides
The scars we carry remain but the pain slips away it seems
Oh won't you baby be in my book of dreams

I'm watchin' you through the window
With your girlfriends from back home
You're showin' off your dress
There's laughter and a toast
From your daddy to the prettiest bride he's ever seen
Oh won't you baby be in my book of dreams

In the darkness my fingers slip across your skin
I feel your sweet reply
The room fades away and suddenly I'm way up high
Just holdin' you to me
As through the window the moonlight streams
Oh won't you baby be in my book of dreams

Now the ritual begins
'Neath the wedding garland we meet as strangers
The dance floor is alive with beauty
Mystery and danger
We dance out 'neath the stars' ancient light into the darkening trees
Oh won't you baby be in my book of dreams"

Days, lol...told you...

"House got too crowded clothes got too tight
And I don't know just where I'm going tonight
Out where the sky's been cleared by a good hard rain
There's somebody callin' my secret name

I'm going down to Lucky Town
Going down to Lucky Town
I wanna lose these blues I've found
Down in Lucky Town
Down in Lucky Town

Had a coat of fine leather and snakeskin boots
But that coat always had a thread hangin' to loose
Well I pulled it one night and to my surprise
It led me right past your house and on over the rise

I'm going down to Lucky Town
Down to Lucky Town
I'm gonna lose these blues I've found
Down in Lucky Town
Down in Lucky Town

I had some victory that was just failure in deceit
Now the joke's comin' up through the soles of my feet
I been a long time walking on fortune's cane
Tonight I'm sleepin' lightly and feelin' no pain

Well here's to your good looks baby now here's to my health
Here's to the loaded places that we take ourselves
When it comes to luck you make your own
Tonight I got to dirt on my hands but I'm building me a new home

Down in Lucky Town
Down in Lucky Town
I'm gonna lose these blues I've found
Down in Lucky Town"

"Now

a life of leisure and a pirate's treasure
Don't make much for tragedy
But it's a sad man my friend who's livin' in his own skin
And can't stand the company
Every fool's got a reason for feelin' sorry for himself
And turning his heart to stone
Tonight this fool's halfway to heaven and just a mile outta hell
And I feel like I'm comin' home"

"Well

I took a piss at fortune's sweet kiss
It's like eatin' caviar and dirt
It's sad funny ending to find yourself pretending
A rich man in a poor man's shirt
Now my ass was draggin' when from a passin' gypsy wagon
Your heart like a diamond shone
Tonight I'm layin' in your arms carvin' lucky charms
Out of these hard luck bones"

"I

got a new suit of clothes

a pretty red rose

and a woman I can call my friend

These are better days baby
Yeah there's better days shining through
These are better days baby
Better days with a girl like you..."

Miss

him everyday.
More everyday it seems like.

Love you.
Nite.

"Now

everyone dreams of love lasting and true
Oh, but you and I know what this world can do
So let's make our steps clear that the other may see
I'll wait for you
And if I should fall behind
Wait for me"

Nite.

"Leap Of Faith"

"All over the world the rain was pourin'
I was scratchin' where it itched
Oh heartbreak and despair got nothing but boring
So I grabbed you baby like a wild pitch

It takes a leap of faith to get things going
It takes a leap of faith you gotta show some guts
It takes a leap of faith to get things going
In your heart you must trust

Now your legs were heaven your breasts were the altar
Your body was the holy land
You shouted "jump" but my heart faltered
You laughted and said "Baby don't you understand ?"

It takes a leap of faith to get things going
It takes a leap of faith you gotta show some guts
It takes a leap of faith to get things going
In your heart you must trust

Now you were the Red Sea I was Moses
I kissed you and slipped into a bed of roses
The waters parted and love rushed inside
I was Jesus' son sanctified

Tonight the moon's looking young but I'm feelin' younger
'Neath a veil of dreams sweet blessings rain
Honey I can feel the first breeze of summer
And in your love I'm born again

It takes a leap of faith to get things going
It takes a leap of faith you gotta show some guts
It takes a leap of faith to get things going
In your heart you must trust"

:-)

"I was driving through my hometown
I was just kinda killin' time
When I seen a face staring out of a black velvet painting
From the window of the five and dime
I couldn't quite recall the name
But the pose looked familiar to me
So I asked the salesgirl "Who was that man
Between the doberman and Bruce Lee ?"
She said "Just a local hero"
"Local hero" she said with a smile
"Yeah a local hero he used to live here for a while"

I met a stranger dressed in black
At the train station
He said "Son your soul can be saved"
There's beautiful women nights of low livin'
And some dangerous money to be made
There's a big town 'cross the whiskey line
And if we turn the right cards up
They make us boss the devil pays off
And them folks that are real hard up
They get their local hero Somebody with the right style
They get their local hero
Somebody with just the right smile

Well I learned my job I learned it well
Fit myself with religion and a story to tell
First they made me the king then they made me pope
Then they brought the rope

I woke to a gypsy girl sayin' "Drink this"
Well my hands had lost all sensation
These days I'm feeling all right
'Cept I can't tell my courage from my desperation
From the tainted chalice
Well I drunk some heady wine
Tonight I'm layin' here
But there's something in my ear
Sayin' there's a little town just beaneath the floodline
Needs a local hero
Somebody with the right style
Lookin' for a local hero
Someone with the right smile
Local hero local hero she said with a smile
Local hero he used to live here for a while"

Who

got more "game" than anybody you ever met?
Oh yeah, the same guy that knew which side of you to walk on heading down the sidewalk :-).

(Thanks mom.)

Love you Bambi.

I

remember sitting in junior English on a warm day in the fall of 1980 reading these words for the first time like it was yesterday.

It just hit me like a ton of bricks.

I remember looking out the window thinking:
"No fucking way...aint no fucking way...ever."

"The judge

said five to ten-but I say double that again
I'm not working for the clampdown
No man born with a living soul
Can be working for the clampdown"

:-)

"Sing, Michael, sing
On the route of the 19 Bus

Hear them sayin'..."

Told

you this too.

Not only

can you not beat a man that doesn't care to lose, you'll end up feeling defeated yourself in the process.

I had a supervisor way before Kindred talking about motivation one day.
I told her: "The only thing that can motivate me is me."
"So all these motivational speakers are getting paid for nothing then?"
"To me they are."
"What if I told you if you didn't do x,y and z you would lose your job? Fear is a great motivator."
"Well, if I didn't feel motivated to do x,y and z I wouldn't do it and we would part ways I suppose.
(Revisit  Kindred for a second lol).
I had a job before this one and I'll have one afterwards."

Guess what?
Later, we lost our grant funding and surprise, surprise, surprise I found another job and life went on.

Ask Dave, he'll tell you.
He was there.

No wonder not many people around here like me lol.

Love you.

"Getting strong now..."

Never.

Never.
Never.
 Never.
Never.
Never.
Never.

That was seven times.
You know, just in case anyone is counting.
Fall down seven times get up eight right?

Told you :-)

Rudie = Rude boys (punks)

Heres

the thing.
You can't beat somebody who don't care if he loses or not ;-).
You're playin his game now.
You can't win in that situation.

Make it to Jan again (22 weeks) and file taxes on my income from this past year, fix the bike, leave everything and start over again somewhere?
Deal.
Not a problem.
Watch me.

So again I tell you and everybody:
Bring it, bring all you got all day long.
Pack a lunch.
You're all in for a long day.

Love you Bambi.

Really?

Is that it?
Is that what passes for yalls feebel attempts at throwing the kitchen sink at me these days?

In the immortal words of Lawrence Taylor:

2:12 mark.

Tell

every last one of them I said:

"Bring everything they got, they gonna need it. They might wanna pack a lunch as well."

Love you.
ttyl.

Since

I haven't seen one besides my own here lately, I figured I'd go get a picture of one and show it to you.

"The

#1 reason for my earthly existence."

Pretty much says it all.

I can already hear the pes-brains in the peanut gallery sayin',
"Well my kids are the #1 reason for my...
blah...blah...blah..."

Really?
So what happens when they move away and start lives of their own?
Then what?
Then what's the #1 reason for your earthly existence?

It's

the closest I could ever come to trying to explain to anyone how we are.

Love you with all my heart.

And holdin' her right now has got me thinkin' more and more
This is right where I need to be

Where I won't miss her I can kiss her
Anytime that I want to
Yeah that's right where I need to be"

On the street
Put me out
With no shoes on my feet
But, put me out, put me out
Put me out of misery
Yeah, all your sickness
I can suck it up
Throw it all at me
I can shrug it off
There's one thing baby
That I don't understand
You keep on telling me
I ain't your kind of man
Ain't I rough enough, ooh baby
Ain't I tough enough
Ain't I rich enough, in love enough"

One more lol

"Hey, but I'n'I - I'n'I nah come to fight flesh and blood,
But spiritual wickedness in 'igh and low places.
So while, so while they fight you down,
Stand firm and give Jah thanks and praises.
I'n'I no expect to be justified
by the laws of men - by the laws of men.
Oh, hey through Jah to prove my innocency,
I told you wicked think they found me guilty.

Oh, when the rain fall, fall, fall now,
It don't fall on one man's housetop. Remember that:
When the rain fall,
It don't fall on one man's housetop"

Ephesians 6:10-18 New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Van Morrison

Had his stream of consciousness, guess I got mine too :-).

Love you Virgie.

2 Timothy 4:16-18

The Lord Remains Faithful

16 At my first defense, no one stood with me, but everyone deserted me.
May it not be charged against them.
17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed, and all the Gentiles would hear it. So I was delivered from the mouth of the lion.
18 And the Lord will rescue me from every evil action and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom.
To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.…

(This one hits pretty hard)

Psalm 34:19 King James Version (KJV)

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

James 1:2-3 New International Version (NIV)

Trials and Temptations

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 New International Version (NIV)

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Example of Joseph.

"Joseph was an arrogant young man who was hated by his brothers.
In their anger at him, they imprisoned him in a pit and then sold him into a life of slavery and misery in Egypt.
Doubtless Joseph prayed to God to help him escape, but no help was forthcoming, and into slavery he went.
Though he experienced years of bondage and misery, Joseph's character was refined and strengthened by his trials.
Eventually he rose up to become a prime minister of Egypt who saved thousands of lives and even his own family from starvation.
If God had not allowed Joseph's years of suffering, he never would have been such a powerful agent for social justice and spiritual healing."
