Joel Chapter 2 Verses 1-2 revisited.

Joel 2

An Army of Locusts

Is the Army literal or figurative?
Based on what I've already written people should be able to deduce that I see it as a figurative army.
Others have pointed out that this chapter is written in such a way that either interpretation could be seen as correct. I'll get into more of why I believe it to be a figurative army of God and not an actual army of locust as I work my way through the chapter.

Blow the trumpet in Zion;

(Ring the diner bell, get everybody together,
basically?,
"Yo! Shit's going down y'all")

sound the alarm on my holy hill.

"Even in the holy mountain the alarm must be sounded, and then it sounds most dreadful,
Amos. 3:2 . Now, shall a trumpet be blown in the city, in the holy city, and the people not be afraid? Surely they will.
Amos. 3:6 . Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; they shall be made to tremble by the judgment itself; let them therefore tremble at the alarm of it."

Mathew Henry's Bible Commentary

Let all who live in the land tremble,
for the day of the Lord is coming.
It is close at hand—

"The phrase “day of the Lord” usually identifies events that take place at the end of history (Isaiah 7:18-25) and is often closely associated with the phrase “that day.” One key to understanding these phrases is to note that they always identify a span of time during which God personally intervenes in history, directly or indirectly, to accomplish some specific aspect of His plan."

a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and blackness.

It is a sad time.
People are distressed ect. There are accounts of locust plagues in ancient days when there were so many that they blocked out the sun from the sky. Again, is it literal or figurative?
You already know my answer. Think metaphorical spiritual desolation, ect.

Like dawn spreading across the mountains

This is how diffuse this army will be.
There is no avoidance, there is no hiding.
None.
 Judgement is coming.
 Period.

a large and mighty army comes,
such as never was in ancient times
nor ever will be in ages to come.

I feel like I have already covered this in great detail.I just wanted to go back and cover some of the things I didn't really hit on the first time around. Only thirty more verse to go :-).
