Isaiah 34 A running commentary Overview Cont, Vs 1

Verses 1-8

Here is a prophecy, as elsewhere we have a history, of the wars of the Lord, which we are sure are both righteous and successful. This world, as something he created, he does good to, but as it is in the interest of Satan, who is called the God of this world, He fights against it. Here is the trumpet sounded and the war proclaimed. Isaiah 34:1, "Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it!" All nations must hear and listen, not only because what God is about to do is worth of their paying attention to, Isaiah 33:13, "You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power!" but because they are all involved in it, it is with them that God has a quarrel, it is against them that God is coming forth in wrath. Let them all take notice that God is angry with them; his indignation is upon all nations, so therefore let all nations come near to hear. The trumpet is blown in the city. Amos 3:6,  "When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it? Joel 2:1, "Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming.
It is close at hand" The watchmen on the walls cry (Us Lucy). Listen to the sound of the trumpet. Jeremiah 6:17 "I appointed watchmen over you and said,‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But you said, ‘We will not listen.’ (Happened) Let the earth hear and the fullness thereof, for it is the Lord's Psalm 24:1," The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it" and we should listen to it's maker and master. The world must hear and all things that come forth of it, the children of men, that are of the earth come out of it, and must return to it, or the inanimate products of the earth are called also, as more likely to hear than sinners, whose hearts are hardened against the calls of God. Hear, O you mountains! The Lord's charge against you. Micah 6:2 “Hear, you mountains, the Lord’s accusation; listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the Lord has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel.
It is so just an accusation that all the world may be safely appealed concerning the fairness and justness of it.
