takes the money from their trade surplus with us and buys
US treasuries, securities, T-bills etc.
This in turn finances our debt.
The recent tax bill is projected to add
1 trillion dollars to our debt over ten years.
At the very time we need China to be able to finance more
of our debt we're going to limit their ability to do so.

"In this day and age, launching a trade war is not in the interest of the world," China's Commerce Ministry said. "We call on all countries to act together to firmly stop such an outdated and backward move, and to firmly safeguard the common interest of all mankind."
He's right. Guess what? It's gonna happen anyway.
