last church,
I will ever be a member of.
Period.
I made that decision before I ever joined.
NEW CHAPEL
United Methodist Church.
"The New Chapel United Methodist Church was organized about 1800 according to WP McDonald as told to him by his mother. The first church was built in a beech forest and from it's logs was framed the first building. Also the first building was heated from a large fireplace with firewood of beech logs from the surrounding forest. The lighting in the church was furnished by candels.
The present church is occupying the same location since it's organizations and this was before Hancock County was a county in KY.
The first services in the church were class meetings and were refereed to as class of Williams. The first pastor, a circuit rider was the Rev. Mr. Taylor, however the organization was attributed to the Reverends Jesse Walker and Thomas Taylor around the year of 1804.
Charter members mentioned in the first documents were the families of Dr. Issac Greathouse, William Henderson and later a Christler family arrived by flatboat down the Ohio River and the Pate family of which members of these families and their descendants have been and are still residences of the area.
In 1844 a plan of separation by the General Conference was adopted and New Chapel became part of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. In 1939 another plan was adopted and the church became a part of the Methodist Church. Still later in 1969 it became The New Chapel United Methodist Church.
In 1867 the second building was erected on the same plot of ground just in front of the log church and the Rev. A. B. Redford dedicated the building with the Rev. Foster Hayes as it's pastor. The church has always been a part of a circuit with the first being The Hartford Circuit, and the later being the Lewisport Circuit.
The present church erected in 1959(?) stands as a great banner to the community. The area surrounding the church is largely farm land, as it began, with a number of factories being built in the Ohio Valley since 1965. The present church consist of eight nine members total (Needs updated) and is the oldest church, at it's original location still having worship services in Hancock County."
I was told by an Ordained Methodist Preacher from the area that he knew of five different Preachers who all received their calling while attending this church. Brother Joe (Our Current preacher) told me New Chapel was founded during the 2nd great awakening.
"The Second Great Awakening reflected Romanticism characterized by enthusiasm, emotion, and an appeal to the super-natural. It rejected the skeptical rationalism and deism of the Enlightenment.
Last night?
I was watching a show. Not really even paying that much attention really. But when he started talking about foreseeing a large revival overtaking the land? I perked up. It got my attention. A few seconds later? The TV unexpectedly quit working. Hadn't ever had a problem before.
Ephesians 2:2
"in which you used to live
when you followed the ways of this world
and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air,
the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
I think it kinda speaks for itself to be honest.
I love you Lucy.
More than you'll ever know.
Thanks for sticking with me sweetheart.
I know it hasn't been easy.
