Supplication
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. For the sake of your name, Lord,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good. For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish. My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled. Hear my voice in accordance with your love;
preserve my life, Lord, according to your laws. Let me live that I may praise you,
and may your laws sustain me. I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord? Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. “Only a few years will pass before I take the path of no return. “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.
