I said yesterday, Bro Joe knocked it out of the park with his message yesterday.
Matthew 13:31-32
The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast
"He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
Matthew 13:33-34
"He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable."
He revisited his message from the previous week:
The righteous and evil will be separated at harvest time.
(I see the beginnings of this happening right now TBH)
Walk with Jesus if you want to be wheat and not weeds.
The Kingdom of Heaven is like the smallest of things
(mustard seed, faith, and then it becomes the largest).
The key point is the dramatic transformation that takes place.
Mustard is a plant not a tree, how does Jesus say "it becomes a tree"?
It's hyperbole, exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
(I''m glad he explained that because, as one of our church members mentioned,
we have all kinds of mustard growing around here in the spring
and it never looks anything close to a tree.
I always just thought it must be a different kinda strain they have over there lol.)
Change is contagious.
(I loved that one, so true.)
Disciples were ordinary people, they grew in faith to become trees.
Just like the mustard seed example used here in this parable.
A big tree?
Helps a lot of people.
Trick is?
It has to be planted in God's fields or it will never work.
Big trees?
Give:
Hope.
Comfort.
Truth.
Strength etc,
to others.
Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Big Trees
Touch lots of lives.
Destiny of Kingdom peoples.
When people see your fruit is different than theirs?
They will come to us.
Like: "birds come and perch in its branches."
I thought he might go with this one too after the verses in Psalms
Jeremiah 17:8
"He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
He didn't.
But yeah...
Like I said,
he knocked it out of the park yesterday Lucy.
Notes on one sermon down.
One more to go :-).
Then the 100 or so verses in Psalms
that jumped out at me during my hospital visit ,
then...
then...
then...
"Did you get finished?'
People ask sometimes.
I know I'll never be done.
Just the way it is.
I love you Dollbaby.
More than you'll ever know.
