Joel 2:30-31

"I will show wonders in the heavens
    and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord."

Great read

FYI

"North Korea expert Victor Cha has said that normally in this situation, the U.S. would go to Chinese President Xi Jinping and say that diplomacy has hit a snag and it was time for China to tighten its sanctions to bring North Korea back to the table. But Trump has started a nasty (and incoherent) trade war with the Chinese and is now blaming them for the diplomatic impasse with Pyongyang. So his government is unlikely to get much of a hearing there."

"He could also, in normal circumstances, go to NATO and other regional allies to put pressure on China and otherwise show a united front to lean on the North Koreans. But he's loaded for bear going into the annual meeting and is preparing to harangue the other NATO members over money again because it is literally the only aspect of the organization he knows or cares about. To state the obvious, Trump's ability to bring America's traditional allies on board for any collective campaign is now severely hampered by his increasingly hostile relationship with all of them."

"So that leads up to Trump's meeting in Helsinki with his most trusted foreign policy adviser, Vladimir Putin, who will likely suggest that the president do something that will weaken the West's position and strengthen Putin's own country. After all, he already persuaded Trump to cancel the joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises as a freebie in the North Korean negotiations. (Trump has unconvincingly insisted that was done to save money, even though those exercises cost less than his cumulative trips to Mar-a-Lago.) Who knows what Putin can persuade Trump to give up next?"

"As we have now seen demonstrated in living color, Trump's alleged negotiating savvy and deal-making prowess have been monumentally oversold. It's not that we didn't suspect that already, considering how clumsily he has botched his own domestic legislative agenda over, even with a friendly GOP Congress. Still, you never know. Maybe he had a secret talent for one-on-one negotiations with foreign leaders. But no. He is a disaster."

"Since Trump is uninterested in history, he does not know or care that peace and prosperity in Europe are essential to peace and prosperity in the United States. When Europeans go to war with each other, as they did twice in the last century, the U.S. ends up paying a huge price in both human and financial terms. As former U.S. ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder said on MSNBC this week, "70 years of peace is a pretty darned good investment."'

"But then, good investments are something Donald Trump doesn't really understand. This is the guy who couldn't even make a profit running casinos. He simply can't recognize a sensible long-term deal when he sees it."

I don't think it's that he can't recognize a sensible long term deal when he sees it, it's that he's powerless to do anything about it due to his puppermasters. The larger problem to me is now a younger generation is going to see all this as normal when it's anything but.

'The

meeting with Putin may be the easiest one of them all."

Than meeting with the leadership of the UK?
Than the NATO summit?

Why in the world can't people see who is calling the shots here?

It's not Trump or the US.

Anybody

wonder why he chose this guy?

"Separately, in a 2009 Minnesota Law Review article, he wrote that "Congress might consider a law exempting a President -- while in office -- from criminal prosecution and investigation, including from questioning by criminal prosecutors or defense counsel." In the same article, however, he noted, "If the President does something dastardly, the impeachment process is available."

You really can't see where this is going?
Lets say Trump gets charged.
He files a lawsuit.
It goes to the supreme court.
This guy cast the deciding vote.
That sound like a great thing for democracy in this country?

This nomination ought to be be held up.
If Mitch McConnell can hold a confirmation to the supreme court up until there was an election
(an unprecedented move BTW)
then surely we can hold one up till an investigation is finished.
Particularly given the above statement from this nominee.

"On July 16, US President Donald Trump will meet in the Finnish capital Helsinki a triumphant Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has just secured another victory in the Syrian war and obtained the international recognition he wanted from hosting the World Cup."

(Back in the day that World Cup would have been played elsewhere or at a minimum boycoted.
Not in the world we live in today it's not.)

"The Russian president will seek to exploit the growing rift between the United States and the European Union and the intensifying Iranian-Israeli rivalry to achieve his two main goals: Break Russia out of international isolation and become the sole kingmaker in Syria."

"But in pursuing a deal with Trump, Putin poses the biggest threat to the legitimacy of his US counterpart domestically and internationally. The US establishment and intelligence community largely believe that the Kremlin favoured him in the 2016 US presidential race and an investigation into alleged Russian interference is still ongoing."

"At the same time, Trump is confronted with an increasingly disgruntled group of allies who are wary of Russia's aggressive posturing. That he will be meeting Putin right after attending the NATO summit in Brussels and visiting the UK (which has just had a major diplomatic crisis with Moscow), will not please any of them."

Again why?
Why meet then?
Who is pulling the strings here.
Trump wanted them in the G7?
Where is the republician Leadership?
Spineless bastards.
Can you imaging if Obama wanted Russia in the G7 under similar circumstances what the outcry would have been?

"On July 16, President Trump will meet President Putin, but this time around, it seems, the roles have been reversed. The US president is facing a growing legitimacy crisis at home, where he is perceived as "a Russian puppet", while his Russian counterpart has been dealt a powerful hand."

(The fact that is even posted on the web is just dumbfounding to someone my age who has followed things as closely as I have for as long as I have.)

Revelation 7:1

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Who

has been talking about this for a while now?

"Yet NATO is being weakened from within — by members’ failure to spend enough on defense; by the rise of nationalism and authoritarianism, especially in Turkey, Hungary and Poland; and perhaps most of all, by President Trump, who seems to prefer President Vladimir Putin of Russia to America’s European allies."

"Sooner rather than later, NATO is also going to have to decide what to do with Turkey and the other countries that are eroding the fabric of the alliance by repudiating democratic principles."

You see which country was mentioned twice right?

"Mr. Trump is burning up all the credit the United States has accrued with our allies across decades by attacking the basis of this alliance, if not the very idea of any alliance — thus, deliberately or not, doing the bidding of Mr. Putin in his quest to divide the West."

Now why on earth could that be?

Like

I said yesterday, Bro Joe knocked it out of the park with his message yesterday.

Matthew 13:31-32

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

"He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

Matthew 13:33-34

"He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable."

He revisited his message from the previous week:

The righteous and evil will be separated at harvest time.
(I see the beginnings of this happening right now TBH)
Walk with Jesus if you want to be wheat and not weeds.

The Kingdom of Heaven is like the smallest of things
(mustard seed, faith, and then it becomes the largest).
The key point is the dramatic transformation that takes place.
Mustard is a plant not a tree, how does Jesus say "it becomes a tree"?
It's hyperbole, exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
(I''m glad he explained that because, as one of our church members mentioned,
we have all kinds of mustard growing around here in the spring
and it never looks anything close to a tree.
I always just thought it must be a different kinda strain they have over there lol.)
Change is contagious.
(I loved that one, so true.)
Disciples were ordinary people, they grew in faith to become trees.
Just like the mustard seed example used here in this parable.
A big tree?
Helps a lot of people.
Trick is?
It has to be planted in God's fields or it will never work.
Big trees?
Give:
Hope.
Comfort.
Truth.
Strength etc,
 to others.

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Big Trees
Touch lots of lives.
Destiny of Kingdom peoples.
When people see your fruit is different than theirs?
They will come to us.
Like: "birds come and perch in its branches."

I thought he might go with this one too after the verses in Psalms

Jeremiah 17:8

"He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
    for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

He didn't.

But yeah...

Like I said,
he knocked it out of the park yesterday Lucy.

Notes on one sermon down.
One more to go :-).
Then the 100 or so verses in Psalms

I know I'll never be done.
Just the way it is.

How can I increase my spiritual discernment?

Question: "How can I increase my spiritual discernment?"

Answer: Discernment is defined as “the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure; an act of perceiving something; a power to see what is not evident to the average mind.” The definition also stresses accuracy, as in “the ability to see the truth.” Spiritual discernment is the ability to tell the difference between truth and error. It is basic to having wisdom.

Arguments and debates surround spiritual truth because it is obscure. Jesus, speaking to His disciples about the Pharisees, said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given” (Matthew 13:11). Satan has “blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 Corinthians 4:4), so God must shed light on the human mind to enable us to understand truth. It is impossible to attain wisdom without God. He gives discernment or takes it away (Job 12:19-21).

Some have mistakenly defined spiritual discernment as a God-given awareness of evil or good spiritual presences—the ability to tell if a demon is in the room. While some people may possess this capability, it is not the biblical meaning of discernment. Spiritual discernment ultimately has to do with wisdom and the ability to distinguish truth from error.

Wisdom is personified in Proverbs 1 and described as someone that we can “get to know” (vv. 20-33). The Bible says that Jesus Christ is “wisdom from God” (1 Corinthians 1:30). Therefore, wisdom, or spiritual discernment, is something that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. The world’s way of getting wisdom is different from God’s way. The learned of the world gain knowledge and apply reason to knowledge to solve problems, construct buildings and create philosophies. But God does not make the knowledge of Himself available by those means. First Corinthians 1:18-31 says the “wisdom of the wise” is frustrated by God who delivers wisdom to the “foolish” and the “weak” by way of a relationship with Jesus Christ. That way, “no human being can boast in His presence” (verse 29). We learn to be spiritually discerning by knowing Him.

It is not wrong to possess knowledge or have an education, and it is not wrong to use reason and logic to solve problems. However, spiritual discernment cannot be attained that way. It must be given by the revelation of Jesus Christ to the believer, and then developed by way of training in righteousness (Hebrews 5:14) and prayer (Philippians 1:9). Hebrews 5:11-14 shows how spiritual discernment is developed. The writer speaks to those who had become “dull of hearing,” meaning they had fallen out of practice discerning spiritually. The writer of Hebrews tells them that everyone who lives on “milk” (rather than the “solid food” desired by the mature) is unskilled in the word of righteousness; however, the mature Christian has been “trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” The keys, according to this passage, are becoming skilled in the Word of God (by which we define righteousness) and “constant practice” (through which we gain experience).

So, how does one increase spiritual discernment? First, recognizing that God is the only one who can increase wisdom, pray for it (James 1:5; Philippians 1:9). Then, knowing the wisdom to distinguish good from evil comes by training and practice, go to the Bible to learn the truth and, by meditation on the Word, reinforce the truth.

When a bank hires an employee, he is trained to recognize counterfeit bills. One would think that the best way to recognize a counterfeit would be to study various counterfeits. The problem is that new counterfeits are being created every day. The best way to recognize a counterfeit bill is to have an intimate knowledge of the real thing. Having studied authentic bills, bank cashiers are not fooled when a counterfeit comes along. A knowledge of the true helps them identify the false.

This is what Christians must do to develop spiritual discernment. We must know the authentic so well that, when the false appears, we can recognize it. By knowing and obeying the Word of God, we will be “trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” We will know God’s character and will. This is the heart of spiritual discernment – being able to distinguish the voice of the world from the voice of God, to have a sense that “this is right” or “this is wrong.” Spiritual discernment fends off temptation and allows us to “hate what is evil; cling to what is good” (Romans 12:9).

How can I increase my spiritual discernment?

Careful

what you pray for.
He'll never give you too much.
He will however,

take you to the edge and let you lean way over and look down.

Someone I know recently expressed an opinion that surprised and in some ways disappointed me. I said to myself, “I thought he would have more discernment than that.”

The experience caused me to reflect on the importance of discernment and the lack of it in our world. We know that people often do not see issues clearly and are easily misled because they do not think biblically. But, sadly, one cannot help reflecting on how true this is of the church community, too.

Most of us doubtless want to distance ourselves from what might be regarded as “the lunatic fringe” of contemporary Christianity. We are on our guard against being led astray by false teachers. But there is more to discernment than this. True discernment means not only distinguishing the right from the wrong; it means distinguishing the primary from the secondary, the essential from the indifferent, and the permanent from the transient. And, yes, it means distinguishing between the good and the better, and even between the better and the best.

Thus, discernment is like the physical senses; to some it is given in unusual measure as a special grace gift (1 Cor. 12:10), but some measure of it is essential for us all and must be constantly nourished. The Christian must take care to develop his “sixth sense” of spiritual discernment. This is why the psalmist prays, “Teach me good judgment and knowledge” (Ps. 119:66).

The Nature of Discernment

But what is this discernment? The word used in Psalm 119:66 means “taste.” It is the ability to make discriminating judgments, to distinguish between, and recognize the moral implications of, different situations and courses of action. It includes the ability to “weigh up” and assess the moral and spiritual status of individuals, groups, and even movements. Thus, while warning us against judgmentalism, Jesus urges us to be discerning and discriminating, lest we cast our pearls before pigs (Matt. 7:1, 6).

A remarkable example of such discernment is described in John 2:24–25: “Jesus would not entrust himself to them … for he knew what was in a man” (NIV).

This is discernment without judgmentalism. It involved our Lord’s knowledge of God’s Word and His observation of God’s ways with men (He, supremely, had prayed, “Teach me good judgment … for I believe Your commandments,” Ps. 119:66). Doubtless His discernment grew as He experienced conflict with, and victory over, temptation, and as He assessed every situation in the light of God’s Word.

Jesus’ discernment penetrated to the deepest reaches of the heart. But the Christian is called to develop similar discernment. For the only worthwhile discernment we possess is that which we receive in union with Christ, by the Spirit, through God’s Word.

So discernment is learning to think God’s thoughts after Him, practically and spiritually; it means having a sense of how things look in God’s eyes and seeing them in some measure “uncovered and laid bare” (Heb. 4:13).

The Impact of Discernment

How does this discernment affect the way we live? In four ways:

1. It acts as a means of protection, guarding us from being deceived spiritually. It protects us from being blown away by the winds of teaching that make central an element of the gospel that is peripheral or treat a particular application of Scripture as though it were Scripture’s central message.

2. Discernment also acts as an instrument of healing, when exercised in grace. I have known a small number of people whose ability to diagnose the spiritual needs of others has been remarkable. Such people seem able to penetrate into the heart issues someone else faces better than the person can do. Of course, this is in some ways a dangerous gift with which God has entrusted them. But when exercised in love, discernment can be the surgical scalpel in spiritual surgery that makes healing possible.

3. Again, discernment functions as a key to Christian freedom. The zealous but undiscerning Christian becomes enslaved—to others, to his own uneducated conscience, to an unbiblical pattern of life. Growth in discernment sets us free from such bondage, enabling us to distinguish practices that may be helpful in some circumstances from those that are mandated in all circumstances. But in another way, true discernment enables the free Christian to recognize that the exercise of freedom is not essential to the enjoyment of it.

4. Finally, discernment serves as a catalyst to spiritual development: “The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning” (Prov. 14:6, NIV). Why? Because the discerning Christian goes to the heart of the matter. He knows something about everything, namely that all things have their common fountain in God. Increase in knowledge, therefore, does not lead to increased frustration, but to a deeper recognition of the harmony of all God’s works and words.

How is such discernment to be obtained? We receive it as did Christ Himself—by the anointing of the Spirit, through our understanding of God’s Word, by our experience of God’s grace, and by the progressive unfolding to us of the true condition of our own hearts.

That is why we also should pray, “I am your servant; give me discernment” (Ps. 119:125, NIV).

To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (1 Corinthians 12:10)

What Is Discernment?

Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes

You made me cry, you told me lies
But, I can't stand to say goodbye
Mama, I'm coming home
I could be right, I could be wrong
It hurts so bad, it's been so long
Mama, I'm coming home

Selfish love yeah we're both alone
The ride before the fall yeah
But I'm gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all

I've seen your face a hundred times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah

'Cause mama, mama, I'm coming home
I'm coming home

You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes

I've seen your face a thousand times
Every day we've been apart
And I don't care about the sunshine, yeah

'Cause mama, mama, I'm coming home

keep your eye on Turkey.

Those dismissed include soldiers, police and academics.
A TV channel and three newspapers have also been closed.
Since the coup attempt the government has fired more than 125,000 people,
introduced emergency rule and clamped down on the media and the opposition.

Under controversial constitutional changes approved by a referendum last year,
parliament has been weakened and the post of prime minister abolished.
The president will be able to appoint to ministers and vice-presidents and intervene in the legal system.

The defeated opposition candidate in the presidential election,
Muharrem Ince, said Turkey was now entering a dangerous period of "one-man rule".

The stage is being set.

Shortly

after Secretary of State Pompeo's recent disastrous visit to North Korea, "North Korean state media issued a statement that did not mention him by name but called the demands he presented “gangster-like.”" one of the reasons given was because he didn't bring up drawing down US troop levels in South Korea.

"with Pyongyang dismissing American demands after
two days of negotiations as “cancerous” and “gangster-like.”"

“It appears Trump took his victory lap a tad too soon,” Bruce Klingner, a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst and now an Asia expert at the Heritage Foundation, said in an email. “The diplomatic path remains open, but it will be far bumpier and far longer than the Trump administration had believed and described publicly.”

Remember this?

"Since North and South Korea reopened diplomatic ties in February, Pyongyang has been pushing for a Korean solution to the ongoing crisis on the peninsula, which analysts say is a way of driving a wedge between Seoul and Washington."

You think canceling those military drills between South Korea and the US so abruptly here a lil bit ago helped the US South Korea relationship or started driving a wedge between the two allies?

Remember this visit was arranged quickly and secretively after the summit between The Donald and Kim Jong Un was announced.

You're China.
What do you want to happen
to the 28,000 US troops stationed in South Korea?

This isn't rocket surgery.

Look, I'm sure Kim Jong Un
and Xi Jinping  discussed
a lot of things at this meeting.

I'm also sure chief among them was getting US troops scaled back or totally withdrawn from the Korean peninsula as part of any denuclearization agreement between the US and North Korea. As the events surrounding Secretary of State Pompeo's recent visit to North Korea demonstrate, to think otherwise is simply pure foolishness on our part.

Maybe that's why they don't get what they want.

I have not stopped or waivered in either of those.

I'm kinda proud of it TBH.

Love you Lucy.

Few

more and I gotta get.

Mostly?

It was all about this.
Which I was glad to see had been viewed yesterday when I got home.

Yeah...

Helped drive me there too :-).
She likes to forget that part y'all :-).

Let

me guess.

Saturday is the anniversary of walking with you to your car for the third time ?

Yeah

I know I'm getting warm, blah, blah, blah.

Email yo.
Long one.

Six

years ago today:

You had bbq from this event.

Which means six years tomorrow afternoon
is when I figured out I was dialing 502
instead of what the area code really was.

Which means six years ago tomorrow is the first time we talked on the phone.
Which means six years ago Monday is when we had diner in the courtyard.

Not sure when we walked by my truck and you said: "Your truck has character.",
or when the third walk to your car on the six floor was but I got a feeling somebody else knows.

Somebody sure wants those suits around for some reason :-).

Alpha?

You wish sweetheart.
I done without ya this long.
Ya might wanna stop and reconsider some things.

Oh

come on
\that was funny and you know it lol.

There

"I'm wontyph
gingham shipp."

It was on sale for four dollars.
I should go back and get it and put it in storage.

We talking like old times enough for you now Bambi?

Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha

It's good

for you to miss me.
You'll live.

Tell

me they're not here now.

Amos 8:11-12

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.

People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it.

When I was growing up?
Seemed like everybody knew their bible and the stories in it.
Even if they didn't believe?
 They knew.
Now days?
Good luck.

Your

soul and your mind.
I'll give you that much.

Details?
That comes with the being alone and red wine part.

New

phase

of the same one if you ask me.

Alright.
You and the rest of the world know the drill.
Night.

Oh?

If she wants to hear everything I adore about her in large detail?
She can let me say them to her face.
Alone.
With soft music playing and red wine being served.
Or she can forget about it lol.

I

love you.
Good Night.
Sweet Dreams.

I

mean, you just don't go from staff looking at you like:
"Holy Shit,
Antisocial Personality Disorder,
Psychotic,
Delusional,
Manic - Depressive,
Bipolar,
this guy runs the gamut."

"Do you mind if we talk to your mom?"
"Not at all, go right ahead."

Then less than 48 hours later:

"How are you feeling today?"

"Good, had a good plan of attack for the 4th,
knew there wouldn't be much staff or activities,
so I drew for a few hours,
walked 2.5 miles doing laps around the floor,
played five games of checkers,
read, (You'll never guess what book Lucy :-),
had visitors,
watched the fireworks.
I feel great."

"Okay, well, we would like to send you home tomorrow."
(This is less than 48 hours later mind you)

The smile on her face told me everything I needed to know.

Today the Rec Therapist was smiling at me.
I smiled back.
"I figured out a lot of things yesterday."
"I bet you did. It's a relief isn't it?"
"You bet."
"Sounds like a wonderful adventure...
(Then she catches herself)
I mean plan A or plan B,
either one sounds like a wonderful adventure."
"I think we all know how this turns out."
I said with a smile on my face.

I bet my choice of travel destinations
and favorite cars list
we did for an activity
made more sense to her
after her meeting than it did before.

What do you think Lucy?

I love you Sweetheart.

Cause

you know,
when my son is about to be checked into the Behavioral Health Ward?

The two most pressing things on my mind would be:

1) "What did you do with your suits?"

And

2) "Do you think you will come back and get your stuff out of storage?"

:-).

Staff

gave you away Knucklehead.
That many people start smiling at you after a staff meeting?

Pretty obvious.

Isaiah 43:1-2

Israel’s Only Savior

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

Struck a chord.
Rung a bell.
Resonated.
Etc.

You have no idea how much I read and prayed.
None.

Or

maybe?

And it's called:

"Love or confusion".
Not, "Our".

Seems approipiate.

given the situation :-).

Hate that it's an instrumental.

That

post from Jan 31st has been updated.
It's now called "Home Tour".
Since somebody is reminiscing and all :-).

:-)

Beautiful.

I love you.
