I

thought I had put this story about this barbershop on here a long time ago but I can't find it so I tell it now.

When we lived in Owensboro I would frequent this barbershop in Wesleyan Park Plaza on a regular basis.
It had four barbers all of whom were always white every time I ever went there.
It was very conservative, wallpaper and the paneling that only came up half way on the wall and paintings of country scenes and hunting and hunting dogs and blah blah blah.

Well?
I moved away and I hadn't been there in years.
So I was going to be in Owensboro running errands (This is about two years ago now I guess) and needed to get my head shaved and beard trimmed and straightened up and just get cleaned up a lil so I thought, hey, I'll run by that barbershop I used to go to, always liked that place.

I opened the door and step in and the decor is now what would be akin to a sports bar lol. Helmets, jerseys, schedules, pennants, flyers the whole deal. I was like what the...
Then I look around, not a white guy in the place lol. I hesitated for a second before continuing on in but then I was like fuck it, you always enjoy a new experience and this certainly looks like it will be one and you need to get cleaned up and you're already here, why bother to go to somewhere else now?

By luck of the draw "Mr Williams" was my barber and I'm sitting there and we start small talking and I told him, "I haven't been here in years."
He just kinda smiles and says, "It changed a lil bit hasn't it?"
I chuckled and said, "Yeah, a lil bit."
Then he stops and takes a step forward and looks me in the eyes and says. "It got a lil bit darker didn't it?"
We both about fell out.
It was great.

Turns out he is from Harlan County where my dad was from.
Needless to say we hit it off.
I've only been there three or four times.
Yesterday was the first time in  a while.
Another barber was available, I politely told him I would wait.
Mr Williams looks at me, and I said, "You're from Harlan right?"
"Yeah", he says, "I thought you looked familiar."

Like Ricky says Lucy:
"Everyday is an adventure."
Yesterday sure was :-).
