I

was just tickled pink

to see SF 49ers

just get crushed

by the Eagles.

I mean killed :-).

I really was.

Dallas beat that team once this year, remember?

And I like the way the Niners play these days,

I like their running attack,

I like their GM John Lynch.

I always liked him even as a player back in the day

and I like their coach

Kyle Shanahan,

I even liked his dad when he was a coach for the Broncos.

I like Kittle, Bosa, Debo, McCafferty etc...

But I'm old school :-)

(about a lot of things apparently :-)

and that short passing game,

equal to a long hand off,

throw the ball to a receiver

3 yards down the field

on third and 8

and have him tackled for a six yard gain

will just always stick in my crawl.

And all of that came from?

SF and Bill Walsh and the Niners of the 80's.

So?

I was just tickled pink to see SF 49ers just get crushed by the eagles.

I mean killed :-).

And by an NFC East team no less :-).

I told people:

"The NFC representative in the Super Bowl will come out of the NFC east this year"

 and it did :-).

I also said Dallas would win the NFC East but that's a different story :-).

So lets review a few things:

First?

Lets look at what is historically the toughest division in the NFL in the Superbowl era.

13 times a team from the NFC east has won the Superbowl.

With the eagles having another chance to add to that total this year.

Thats close to 1/3 of all Superbowl winners having come out of the NFC east.

But wait, there's more :-)

"The NFC East division has more Lombardi Trophies than any other division.

With 13 Super Bowl triumphs and 21 NFC Championships

(38% of the time a team from the NFC east has appeared in the Superbowl) t

hey have four more

than any other division in the NFL.

"The Dallas Cowboys top the list in this division with five victories in NFL's championship game,

followed by the New York Giants with four.

Washington has three and the Philadelphia Eagles one.

The NFC East is also the only division in which every team has a win on the biggest stage."

So in the Superbowl era?

The toughest division in the NFL is the NFC East.

And the team with the most NFC east division titles?

and the most NFC Championship game appearances/victories?

 and the most Superbowl appearances

and the most Superbowl victories

from that historically toughest division in the Superbowl era?

All of that?

Even after suckin for 28 years and having an absolute catastrophe for an owner/ GM.

Dear Jerry Jones:

It's not complicated and Troy Aikman has already told you, just go back to what worked, hire a good coach and GM and stay out of the way ala Jeffery Lurie in Philly and other owners.)

As my dad used to say about the Niners:

"All they have to do is beat the Saint, Rams and Falcons twice a year (the NFC west during the 80's) plus they are in a division with one less team in it than everyone else, so they play two less division games a year. Good lord why wouldn't they win that division every year? Put Dallas in that division and see how many championships they would win."

Exactly

Or?

Put SF in the NFC East and see how many Superbowls they would have won. The Steelers and Niners playing in Divisions with one less team than everybody else when they were winning their Superbowls in the 70's and 80's is very much overlooked these days.

(Actually? the year the Steelers won their first Superbowl? The AFC West had only 4 teams in it as well. The following year the AFC West added the Seahawks (now in the NFC west) but 3 out of their 4 Superbowl wins in the 70's came with them playing in a division with one less team than the other divisions.)

So yeah,

I enjoyed the complete and total demolition of the Niners Sunday, I really did and by a NFC East team no less :-).
