Affliction Bible Verses:

Affliction:

Hardships and Trials

Afflictions

A) Visited upon:

Israel in Egypt...

Gen. 15:13

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Samson by Philistines....

Judg. 16:5, 6

The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.”

So Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued.”

David by God..

Ps. 88:7

Your wrath lies heavily on me;

    you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[a]

You have taken from me my closest friends

    and have made me repulsive to them.

I am confined and cannot escape;

my eyes are dim with grief.

I call to you, Lord, every day;

    I spread out my hands to you.

Judah by God..

Lam. 3:33

For he does not willingly bring affliction

    or grief to anyone.

Israel by the world

Ps. 129:1, 2

“They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,”

    let Israel say;

“they have greatly oppressed me from my youth,

    but they have not gained the victory over me.

The just by the wicked

Amos 5:12,

For I know how many are your offenses

    and how great your sins.

There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes

    and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

Heb 11:37

They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—

Christians by the world.....

2 Cor. 1:6

If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.

B.) Design of, to:

Show God's sympathy....

Is. 63:9

In all their distress he too was distressed,

    and the angel of his presence saved them.[a]

In his love and mercy he redeemed them;

    he lifted them up and carried them

    all the days of old.

Make us seek God ...

Hos. 5:15

Then I will return to my lair

    until they have borne their guilt

    and seek my face—

in their misery

    they will earnestly seek me.”

Bring us back to God

Ps. 119:67

Before I was afflicted I went astray,

    but now I obey your word.

Humble us .

2 Chr. 33:12

In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.

Purify us...

Is. 48:10

See, I have refined you, though not as silver;

    I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

C. In the Christian's life:

A means of testing ...

Mark 4:17

But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

A part of life..

Mat. 24:9

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.

To be endured.

2 Tim. 4:5

But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Part of Gospel.

1 Thes. 1:6

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

Must not be moved by...

1 Thes.3:3

so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. For you know quite well that we are destined for them.

Commendable examples of..

2 Tim. 3:11

persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.

Brief duration...

2 Cor. 4:17

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

Sometimes intense...

2 Cor. 1:8-10

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,

Must be shared...

Phil. 4:14

 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.

Cannot separate from God....

Rom. 8:35-39

 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;

    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Deliverance from, promised ...

Ps. 34:19

The righteous person may have many troubles,

    but the Lord delivers him from them all;

Need prayer in.

Jas. 5:13

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

Terminated at Christ's return...

2 Thes.1:4-7

Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.

Remind me again about how the Body of Christ wont have to endure the Tribulation?

That its just not indicative of Gods character?

That we just don't need:

To be made to seek God

To be Brought us back to God

To be Humbled

We don't need to be purified

We don't need to be tested

We don't need to endure

Ready yo.

Anybody in the world wants to go first and give their endorsement of the pretribulation rapture of the church and I will gladly follow you with my defense of the post-tribulation argument.

(It only took about 90 minutes the last time I prepared and practiced it :-).

People know how to get ahold of me.

I'll go right now just like I am.

(excuse the pun :-).

Anybody

anytime

 anywhere,

minimal prep time.

I'm just getting warmed up...

I love you baby :-).
