“Even if there is only one possible unified theory, it is just a set of rules and equations. What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe? The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe for the model to describe. Why does the universe go to all the bother of existing?”
It's really pretty simple:
"Is this guy serious?"
Here:
Don Stewart :: Why Did God Create the Universe?
Exactly What he said...
1. He Created It For Himself
2. Creation Was By His Own Will
3. 3. He Created The Universe For His Own Glory
4. He Created The Universe To Make Known His Power And Wisdom
"What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe?"
"The four letters, written and read from right to left (in Hebrew), are yodh, he, waw, and he. The name may be derived from a verb that means "to be", "to exist", "to cause to become", or "to come to pass".
I'd go with one of those as the explaination of:
"What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe?"
Psalm 33:6
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
This is the guy who helped prove the universe had a starting point?
And then he spent a good chunk of the rest of his life trying to find a work around for his own discovery because he didn't like the theistic implications of it?
Thats not being a scientist that's being an ideologue.
Science doesn't try to figure out a way around what it discovers.
How about we just work from there from now on?
These people...
Goodness.
