(Well I wonder where those came from?

And Notice it never mentions 

that they still don't have access 

("China's ongoing hacking interests.")

just that

once you have the ability

to create 

Administrator accounts?

And these accounts 

can create 

OTHER

administrator accounts?

That  can create others and so on?

You'll never know 

which accounts are legit 

and which ones aren't.

And your network is monitored

and worthless.)

China-backed Volt Typhoon group 

strikes US critical infrastructure

"(This last one is big BTW

and that's why it "flew under the radar" so to speak.

And why is it exactly that Microsoft discovers this?

And the cybersecurity firm FireEye 

discovered the SolarWinds attack?

Sure am glad we spent all those kazillions of $'s on NSA surveillance.

Seems to be working out just great.)

"Microsoft has discovered stealthy and targeted malicious activity targeted at U.S. critical infrastructure organizations, largely focused on 

post-compromise credential access 

and network system discovery. Using ‘living-off-the-land’ techniques and hands-on-keyboard activity, the attack is carried out by Volt Typhoon, a state-sponsored hacker group based in China that typically focuses on espionage and information gathering. These attacks have targeted critical infrastructure sectors including communications, manufacturing, utility, transportation, maritime, and government.

(I wonder why they left out healthcare?

Its about all that is left out seems like.)

“Microsoft assesses with moderate confidence that this Volt Typhoon campaign is pursuing development of capabilities that could disrupt critical communications infrastructure between the United States and Asia region during future crises,” the Microsoft Threat Intelligence team, wrote in a Wednesday blog post. “Volt Typhoon has been active since mid-2021 and has targeted critical infrastructure organizations in Guam and elsewhere in the United States.” 

And that was May of last year.
