from 1834 till 1892.
Charles Spurgeon
Some of ya aint gonna have much
to keep talking about after today.
That quote above is a lot more accurate than:
"You cant be a Christian and vote______.
Fill in your own blank with whatever you want.
Just like Brother Brian said:
"The disciples didn't go around preaching politics."
Mt own views are pretty public on the subject:
"When ANY political ideology supersedes your faith? You're practicing political idolatry. PERIOD."
So my question on election day is this:
WHAT ENTITY
COULD HAVE POSSIBLY HAD US
MOVE FROM:
TO THE STATE OF THE CHURCH TODAY?
AND WHY NOW?
The answers are self evident and only the practitioners of the status quo don't want it to change.
Pharisees much?
Cause when it does change?
(as it already is)
They aint gonna have nothing
to talk or preach about.
Let that sink in.
Consider the following:
spurgeonbooks (IG)
"We don't live for politics - we live for Christ."
(And if you are living for politics exactly what kinda Christian are ya?)
"And his Kingdom will never advance by the power of any earthly king, president, or senate.
(I mean we have to actually explain that these days?
See comments above.)
"In his own day, people demanded that Christ come with power and pomp to establish his kingdom over every earthly power. And he refused."
(And if you don't like that?
Well?
TOUGH.)
"He showed us a better way: - to seek true greatness by serving others instead of taking what's ours.
(ANY politician who never had an active faith life before they became one? Yeah no thx, I don't care what you say. You have already proved yourself to me.)
- to pursue the common good, not selfish ends.
(Where are the politicians who do this?)
- to seek first the Kingdom of God, not the powers of the state.
(Things are going 100% to Gods plan. Why do you care so much about things that we know will not stand? Earthly Kingdoms. Why? As we have seen and are seeing? They all meet the same fate eventually.)
- to love your enemies instead of mocking them.
( I can understand where some might think Im guilty of the above, to which I would respond:
Destroying strongholds aint easy, the two witnesses "tormented" the people of the earth, and you simply do not know who is on my prayer list.
Or what my history is with them.)
Let's seek to quietly follow in his steps more than we seek victory for our political party.
(Any victory will be short lived anyway, so wats the point.)
Friends, vote for whomever you would like.
(AMEN! You mean like everybody did when I was growing up? Look how far we have strayed in the last 40/44 years alone.)
But don't confuse your priorities - You are a pilgrim of the Kingdom of God, passing through this earthy Kingdom. You are a citizen of a better Kingdom.
(And if you honestly believe so?
You wouldn't be so worried about this one.)
There's in no one on your ballot (and no one on this planet) who could take Christ off of the throne.
AND there is no one on your ballot who can bring his Kingdom closer. The political leaders that you're trusting in will not last forever. The political movements and parties that you're excited about will quickly fade. Even our nation is not eternal.
But Christ is unstoppable and never-ending. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the firstborn from the dead. His Kingdom has no end. His power has no rival. His purposes have no obstacles. Live for HIM and not the broken systems of our fallen world.
Don't hunger and thirst for your political party's victory - hunger and thirst for the return of Christ in victory. Because that's more sweet AND more sure.
What if?
That is what we had been hearing from the pulpit the last 40/44 years?
If it was good enough for Charles Spurgeon o ver 100 years ago? It out to be good enough for us today.
And a big Kudos to IG account
@spurgeonbooks
for sharing such an important message this election day.
I just couldn't agree any more
with what's said above.
AMEN!
