Verses that resonated

from Pastor Bridgette's reading of

the events of Holy Week.

Sunday

4/13/25 New Chapel.

(and maybe some that weren't read during worship

but read the next day :-).

Reference from Scofield KJV

(among others)

and some of my own :-).

Yes, we are to that point these days.)

and selected excerpts from commentaries

on the resonating verses and their references

with an unexpected conclusion

(not where this was intended to go)

at the end.

ENJOY.

LUKE 19:29

And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany,

at the mount called the mount of Olives,

he sent two of his disciples.

(Reference:

Revelation 11:3

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Joshua 2:1

Rahab and the Spies

2 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

A team it would seem, goes first.)

LUKE 19:37

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

LUKE 19:40

And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

(References:

Habakkuk 2:11

The stones of the wall will cry out,

and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.

I was thinking more along the lines of:

Matthew 3:9

And do not think you can say to yourselves,

‘We have Abraham as our father.’

I tell you that

out of these stones

God can raise up children

for Abraham.)

Israel prophecies vv.41-44

(Via Scofields KJV)

LUKE 19:43-44

43 For

the days

shall come upon thee

that thine enemies

shall cast a trench about thee,

and compass thee round,

and keep thee in on every side,

(References:

 Luke 21:20

“When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies,

you will know that its desolation is near.

Genesis 12:2

And I will make of thee a great nation,

and I will bless thee,

and make thy name great;

and thou shalt be a blessing:

Romans 11:26

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written,

There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer,

and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:)

44 And shall lay thee even with the ground,

and thy children within thee;

and they shall not leave in thee

one stone upon another;

because thou knewest not

the time of thy visitation.

(References:

Matthew 24:2

And Jesus said unto them,

See ye not all these things?

verily I say unto you,

There shall not be left here

one stone upon another,

that shall not be thrown down.

Luke 1:68

 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;

for he hath visited and redeemed his people,

John 12:35

35 Then Jesus said unto them,

Yet a little while is the light with you.

Walk while ye have the light,

lest darkness come upon you:

for he that walketh in darkness

knoweth not whither he goeth."

"The Pharisees

were scared of Jesus,

the people

had declared him

the messiah."

(Pastor Bridgette's commentary inserted)

Luke 22:17-20

17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying,

This cup is the new testament in my blood

which is shed for you.

(The very moment when

Christianity came into being,

from that instant forward

it was no longer a Jewish sect)

Luke 22:31

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold,

Satan hath desired to have you,

that he may sift you as wheat:

Luke 22:35-37

35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

37 For I say unto you, that

this that is written

must yet be accomplished in me

And he was reckoned among the transgressors:

for the things concerning me

have an end.

(All of them,

"the things concerning me"

eventually

and that also includes,

but isn't usually thought of here:

His second advent.

Judgement.

Millennial Kingdom etc.)

Luke 22:38

And they said,

Lord, behold,

here are two swords

And he said unto them,

It is enough.

(The most, "Whoa? What?"

 Verse of the day.

I thought

gonna have to do some digging on that one

Sell your cloak and buy a sword

and it makes sense, as the fulfillment of prophecy

Isaiah 53:9-12

"according to which I would be put in the ranks of criminals (Luke 22:36-37).

The idea of fighting with just two swords is ridiculous.

(Not in Revelation 11 it isnt.)

The swords are enough, however, to justify the accusation that Jesus is the head of a band of brigands."

You should already know where I am going.

Two swords was enough to get him accused, true,

but they will most certianly

"be enough

later on as well:

Reference;

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Revelation 11:5

5 And if any man will hurt

them

fire proceedeth

out of their mouth,

and devoureth their enemies

and if any man will hurt them,

he must in this manner be killed.

Which is Foreshadowing:

Revelation 19:15

15 And

out of his mouth goeth

a sharp sword,

that with it he should smite the nations:

and he shall rule them with a rod of iron:

and he treadeth the winepress

of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges commentary:

"as though two would be of any use

against a world in arms !"

(They will be in Revelation 11 :-)

"Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

Our Lord gave notice of

a very great change of circumstances

now approaching.

(Like right now.)

The disciples must not expect that their friends would be kind to them as they had been. Therefore, he that has a purse, let him take it, for he may need it.

They must now expect that their enemies

would be more fierce than they had been,

and they would need weapons

At the time the apostles understood Christ to mean real weapons

but he spake only of

the weapons of the spiritual warfare.

The sword of the Spirit

is the sword with which

the disciples of Christ

must furnish themselves."

(I think it was more both, real weapons

so as to be considered a criminal

in fulfillment of prophecy

AND

spiritual weapons

for what is coming

after the

change of circumstances

as noted.)

also see:

LUKE 19:29:

"...he sent two of his disciples."

Joshua 2:1

"...Sent two spies.")

Luke 22:46

And said unto them,

Why sleep ye? rise and pray,

lest ye enter into temptation.

(Like the church at the start of the tribulation.

Sleeping, after having gotten drunk with the world.

Who is speaking out against Trumps coming police state?)

Luke 22:53

When I was daily with you in the temple,

ye stretched forth no hands against me:

but

this is your hour,

and the power of darkness.

MacLaren's Expositions

"...there is emphasis laid on ‘your,’ and

that hour is thereby designated

as a time in which

they could do as they would

It was their opportunity,

or, as we say in our colloquialism,

now was their time when,

unhindered

they might carry into effect their purposes."

Sound familiar?

Sure does to me.

As in right now:

2 Thessalonians 2:7

For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work;

but the one who now holds it back

will continue to do so

till he is taken out of the way.

Luke 23:5

And they were the more fierce, saying,

He stirreth up the people, teaching

throughout all Jewry,

beginning from Galilee to this place.

(Bout fell out lol

Me and Honey?

Were in good company then:-).

Luke 23:28-31

28 But Jesus turning unto them said,

Daughters of Jerusalem,

weep not for me, but weep for yourselves,

and for your children.

29 For,

behold,

the days are coming

in the which they shall say,

Blessed are the barren,

and the wombs that never bare,

and the paps which never gave suck.

(Resonates...a lot,

I'm sure it does for honey as well:

Reference

Isaiah 54

The Future Glory of Zion

“Sing, barren woman,

    you who never bore a child;

burst into song, shout for joy,

    you who were never in labor;

because more are the children of the desolate woman

than of her who has a husband,”

says the Lord.

2 “Enlarge the place of your tent,

    stretch your tent curtains wide,

    do not hold back;

lengthen your cords,

    strengthen your stakes.

3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;

    your descendants will dispossess nations

and settle in their desolate cities.

4 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.

Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.

You will forget the shame of your youth

and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.

5 For your Maker is your husband—

the Lord Almighty is his name—

the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;

he is called the God of all the earth.

6 The Lord will call you back

as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—

a wife who married young,

only to be rejected,” says your God.

7 “For a brief moment I abandoned you,

but with deep compassion I will bring you back.

8 In a surge of anger

I hid my face from you for a moment,

but with everlasting kindness

I will have compassion on you,”

    says the Lord your Redeemer.

9 “To me this is like the days of Noah,

when I swore that the waters of Noah

would never again cover the earth.

So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,

    never to rebuke you again.

10 Though the mountains be shaken

    and the hills be removed,

yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken

nor my covenant of peace be removed,”

says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

11 “Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,

I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise,[a]

    your foundations with lapis lazuli.

12 I will make your battlements of rubies,

    your gates of sparkling jewels,

and all your walls of precious stones.

13 All your children will be taught by the Lord,

and great will be their peace.

14 In righteousness you will be established:

Tyranny will be far from you;

you will have nothing to fear.

Terror will be far removed;

it will not come near you.

15 If anyone does attack you,

it will not be my doing;

    whoever attacks you

will surrender to you.

16 “See, it is I who created the blacksmith

who fans the coals into flame

and forges a weapon fit for its work.

And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc;

17     no weapon forged against you will prevail,

and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

and this is their vindication from me,”

declares the Lord.

(And Scofield doesn't cross reference Luke 23:28 with Isaiah 54?

??????????)

Ive only written commentaries on four chapters of the bible.

Isaiah 54 just happens to be one of them.

(Taken together the four
mirror the life cycle of:
Birth
Growth
Peak
Decline
Death/Rebirth.

So yeah, Resonates, a lot.)

"More Yet!" lol.

Isaiah 54)

Back to Luke 23:30-31

30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,

Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

(Reference:

Revelation 6:16-17

They called to the mountains and the rocks,

“Fall on us and hide us[a] from the face of him

who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

17 For the great day of their[b] wrath has come,

and who can withstand it?”

Revelation 9:6

During those days

people will seek death but will not find it;

they will long to die, but death will elude them.)

31 For if they do these things in a green tree,

what shall be done in the dry?

'Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

The best saints,

compared with Christ,

are dry trees;

if he suffer,

why may not they expect to suffer?

(Thats always been my question

for the Pretribulationist Rapture types BTW.

That whole concept just goes against the grain of:

"pick up your cross and follow me")

And what then shall the damnation of sinners be!

Even the sufferings of Christ preach terror to obstinate transgressors.

I personally think

the event below

does not get the attention

that it rightfully deserves:

Luke 23:45

And the sun was darkened,

and the veil of the temple

was rent in the midst.

Reference:

Hebrews 9:3

Behind the second curtain

was a room called the Most Holy Place,

(The Holy of Holies, the place where the ark of the covenant was kept, and where the high priest would enter once a year to offer sacrifices and burn incense to atone for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 10:19-20

A Call to Persevere in Faith

Therefore, brothers and sisters,

since we have confidence

to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,

20 by a new and living way

opened for us through the curtain,

that is, his body,

Simply put?

The curtain was split into.

It simply wasnt needed anymore.

And it wasnt exactly some lil flimsy sheet.

"There was a thick veil (curtain) the high priest had to pass through to do this. The curtain had many layers and formed a maze for the high priest to enter. Early Jewish tradition describes the outer veil as thick as a man's hand (about four inches), sixty feet tall, and thirty feet wide. It was so heavy that it took three hundred priests to manipulate it. The curtain was renewed each year and was said to be strong enough that if horses were tied to each side of it, they could not pull it apart."

"The Torn Veil"

It was ornate,

it was thick,

it was tall,

and it was split into

meaning all now had access

through Christ their high priest

who gave himself

as a Holy and living sacrifice.

and it happened

the moment he drew his last breath

and his spirit exited.

As is stated in the next verse:

VS 46

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice,

he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit:

and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Interesting to me also

the role of women:

See Luke 23:27,49, 55

27 And there followed him a great company of people,

and of women

which also bewailed and lamented him.

(Scofield went EXACTLY where I would have

and referenced Luke 23:27 with:

Luke 8:3

And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward,

and Susanna,

 and many others

which ministered unto him

of their substance.

It was the women who largely

provided the resources for his ministry.

Thats why they were wailing etc.

SO WHY DONT WE EVER

HEAR ABOUT THAT?

HUM?

49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

(Women mentioned three times in that chapter BTW, interesting.)

Now working toward the conclusion:

As shown previously

 in great detail here:

We

Even in a prophecy of his birth

his second advent

is featured prominently

Micah 5:3

will he give them up,

until the time that

she which travaileth

hath brought forth:

Reference

Revelation 12:2

And she being with child cried,

travailing in birth,

and pained to be delivered.

along with:

Micah 5:5

And this man

(Referencing Christ)

shall be the peace,

when the Assyrian shall come

into our land:

and when he shall tread

in our palaces,

then shall we raise against him

seven

shepherds,

and

eight

principal men.

(Right In between the completion

(seven)

and the new beginning.

(eight)

as it were.

I Didnt catch that, that well in December

when I was writing about it BTW)

And now as demonstrated in this post

even at his death

we see his second advent

as having a prominent place:

LUKE 19:29

"he sent two  of his disciples"

(Revelation 11:3)

LUKE 19:43

For the days

shall come upon thee,

that thine enemies

shall cast a trench about thee,

and compass thee round,

and keep thee in on every side

Luke 21:20

Luke 19:44

and they shall not leave in thee

one stone upon another;

Mathew 24:2

Luke 22:18

I will not drink of the fruit of the vine,

until the kingdom of God shall come.

Luke 22:37

For I say unto you, that

this that is written

must yet be accomplished in me

And he was reckoned

among the transgressors:

for the things concerning me

have an end.

Luke 22:38

And they said,

Lord, behold,

here are two swords.

And he said unto them,

It is enough.

(Revelation 11, two witnesses pericope)

Luke 22:46

And said unto them,

Why sleep ye? rise and pray,

lest ye enter into temptation.

(Like the church at the start of tribulation.

Sleeping, after having gotten drunk with the world.)

Luke 22:53

but

this is your hour,

and the power of darkness.

MacLaren's Expositions

"...there is emphasis laid on ‘your,’ and

that hour

is thereby designated

as a time in which

they could do as they would.

(Reference the hour spoke of in both:

Revelation 17:12

And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

and:

Matthew 26:40

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?)

"It was their opportunity,

or, as we say in our colloquialism,

now was their time when,

unhindered

they might carry into effect their purposes."

Sound familiar?

Sure does to me.

Like right now:

2 Thessalonians 2:7

For the secret power of lawlessness

is already at work;

but the one who now holds it back

will continue to do so

till he is taken out of the way.

(You can most assuredly

put a check by that as having taken place.)

Luke 23:5

"...He stirreth up the people, teaching."

:-), no comment.

Luke 23:29

For, behold,

the days are coming,

in the which they shall say,

Blessed are the barren,

and the wombs that never bare,

and the paps which never gave suck.

(Reference Isaiah 54

How Scofield could have missed

that reference is just beyond me BTW.)

Luke 23:30

30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,

Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

(Reference:

Revelation 6:16-17

They called to the mountains and the rocks,

“Fall on us and hide us[a] from the face of him

who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

17 For the great day of their[b] wrath has come,

and who can withstand it?”

Revelation 9:6

During those days

people will seek death but will not find it;

they will long to die, but death will elude them.)

CONCLUSION:

Trying to dance around the obvious

(His second coming)

is just not a viable option,

as it is an essential part

of the entire redemption story.

His second coming was important enough to be prophizised about when prophizing his birth,

Christ himself makes allusions to his second coming when speaking of the fulfillment of prophecies leading to his death.

SO WHY DO WE

TRY

AVOID IT NOW

WHEN IT IS AT OUR DOORSTEP?

James Nayler, at the beginning of his Quaker ministry responding to the accusations of Quaker opponents:

"...art not thou ashamed

to profess the Scripture

and deny what they witness?"

Because that is exactly

what people are doing today,

and its going to cost em.

LUKE 22:37

"...this that is written

must yet be accomplished

in me...

for the things concerning me

have an end."

Yes they do.

Period.
