Maybe the Iranians wouldn't hate us so much if the British and US intelligence services hadn't overthrown their democratically elected government in 1953 to installed our puppet the Shah.

What a disastrous decision with far flung long term historical significance this turned out to be.
Most people either don't know about it, or when told about it choose not to believe it.
