The saga of the 13 year old coffee can.

I have a coffee can that has been on my porch since shortly after we moved in.
It's over 13 years old.

Why?
Some may ask.
Well?
Because I do lol.
Why in the world get rid of it now after 13 years would be my question?

One of the first times Christian ever came over and we sat on the porch he was like:
"You need an ashtray."
"No I don't, I don't smoke, what in the world do I need an ashtray for?"
"For the people that smoke and come over and visit that's what for."
The next time he came over:
"Here, use this for an ashtray."
It's been here ever since.

It went six or seven years without ever being emptied lol.
One of the first times Fawn ever came over and visited:
"Do you have an ashtray?"
"As a matter of fact I do, it's under your chair."
"This?"
(Holds up coffee can.)
"Yeah, that."
She just laughed and then was told the above story :-).

One night me and Christian were sitting on the porch just yapping away.
"Be quiet for a minute."
"What?"
"Just be quiet for a second."
"Okay."
"You hear that?"
"Yeah, what the hell?"
(Sounded like some lil something shaking around, like a rattle almost)
"Where is it coming from?"
"It's under your chair."
Pulled out the coffee can.
"Dude there is a cocoon in here."
"What?, thats' not it."
Christian says: "Yeah it is just wait a second you'll see it shake around, something is in there trying to get out."
"No way, really?"
Few minutes later it rattles around again.
"Dude that thing been on my porch forever. It's been swept from one side of the porch to the other, lost and forgotten about many times over."
"You got something to put it in?"
"Yeah I got on of these lil critter cages of Nicholas', we can put it in there."
"Lets do that and you check it everyday for a bit, somethings trying to get out."
"Okay sounds like a plan."

So we did.
Couple of days later and the cocoon had a hole in it.
A caterpillar had come out.
Well that's cool.
I showed Nicholas.

We put a lil thing of water and some leaves and grass and bugs in the critter cage for him.
Few days later I'm looking for him.
Can't find him.
I'm like: "I know that thing couldn't get out of here, where in the world did it go?"
Finally I turned the critter cage upside down and there was what looked like a real tight bunch of cobwebs kinda thing in one of the corners of the critter cage.
I knew that had to be the caterpillar as it wasn't there before.
Showed Nicholas what was going on.

A few days later this emerges :-).

Beautiful.
Felt like : Welcome to the country city boy, science projects happening right outside your front door.

So.
To some it might just be a 13 year old coffee can.
To me and several others?
It's so much more than that.

If somebody were to clean up my porch?
They would probably throw it away.
And I would be like:
"What the fuck did you do that for?! Why?"

Some people would just never understand how someone could be so upset about a thirteen year old coffee can being thrown away.
Almost like they weren't ever supposed to understand things to begin with and just never will.

Just like a lot of other things Lucy.

Love you Dollbaby.
