Isaiah 34 a Running Commentary, Verses 9-17, Six specific Points, Point 3

Verses 9-17

Point 3

God will mark them for ruin and destruction.

He shall stretch out upon the world the line of confusion with the instruments of emptiness. Isaiah 34:11, "The desert owl and screech owl will possess it; the great owl and the raven will nest there. God will stretch out over Edom the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation." I remember the first time I read that verse. It struck a chord. Bigtime. The fairness of the judgement passed upon the world is directly level and in line, plumb etc, to the manner in which it is to be handed out. The coming judgment of nations is given according to the rules of justice and the exact agreeableness of it's execution with it. There is nothing random about the coming judgement of the nations. It may seem like it's all random and chaos on the surface, but dig a little deeper and you will find that it is surely constructed by line and level. "the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation.", indeed. The confusion and the emptiness that will be spread over the entire world shall be like the whole of the earth when it was without form, and void. Genesis:1:2 "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Sin soon turns a paradise into chaos and damages the purity or integrity of the whole creation. When there is confusion there will soon be emptiness; but both will be appointed by the almighty, and in exact proportions.
