Valley View Ferry

Kentucky River Crossing
Tates Creek Road
South of Lexington Kentucky
360 miles round trip.

Ice machine on the dock over there by the boat.
Really?
:-).

Thats crazy.

Looks like there might have been a bridge here at one time?

Shot of the day.

They took down the historical marker.
I crossed this ferry before.
In my Suzuki Sidekick :-).

Back in the day when I lived up here.

There used to be a historical marker here,
stating that this was the oldest continuously operating business in the state of Kentucky.
A ferry across this part of the Kentucky River has been in operation since Kentucky was part of Virginia.
Or so the old historical marker said.
It's no longer a business but is jointly operated by the two counties it serves.
I guess that is why they had to take down the historical marker.

Seven ferries down.
Two to go.
Both are up by Cincinnati.
One on the east side and one on the west.

This was a really great day.
Had breakfast at Cracker Barrel.
Bought a Sioux City Sarsaparilla for Nicholas.
(See Sam Elliot's role in the Big Lebowski.)
Saw some old places where I used to drive by when I lived in Lexington.
Test rode a Softail slim from Bluegrass HD on the way home.
Talked to a 20 year old young man about Bob Marley while gassing up :-).
(He was wearing a t shirt and liked my bike :-).
Everybody was just really nice all day long.
Bought a new pair of riding gloves.
Had dinner and visited with Nicholas and his girlfriend on way home.

Just a great day over all.

I love you Lucy.
