From

my buddy David Lash:

With this new moon, we sit on the cusp of the Jewish month of Elul, the last month of the Jewish year. According to tradition, the entire month is devoted to repentance and a return to Jewish values in preparation for the new year ahead. The word Elul is related to the root of the verb "to search". And, it is this time we search our hearts, quell the inner, trivial conversations we've grown accustomed to and find our true purpose again. Whatever we do, may we find it in love. From the Song of Songs, we read the love-filled Hebrew, "Ani l’dodi v’dodi li"...“I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me.” The first letter of each Hebrew word in this phrase, אֱ (aleph), ל (lamed), וּ (vav), ל (lamed), make up the letters of Elul (אֱלוּל). Perhaps this is no accident. Remember. Return.

Shabbat shalom.
