“The more likely scenario
from an engineering
(Supernatural) perspective

involves a mothership (Asteroid)
that releases mini-probes (fragments)
which perform a reverse Oberth maneuver
to slow down at perihelion
and intercept Earth,

A "few months"
would seem to imply
more than two.

Cause it is quite obviously
