"My

God isn't like that."

Well...

Lets review shall we?

Habakkuk 2:2-4

The Lord’s Answer

Then the Lord replied:

“Write down the revelation
    and make it plain on tablets
    so that a herald may run with it.
For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
    it speaks of the end
    and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
    it will certainly come
    and will not delay.

“See, the enemy is puffed up;
    his desires are not upright—
    but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness."

Habakkuk 2:6

“Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying,

“‘Woe to him who piles up stolen goods
    and makes himself wealthy by extortion!
    How long must this go on?’

Habakkuk 2:9

“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain,
    setting his nest on high
    to escape the clutches of ruin!"

Habakkuk 2:10

 You have plotted the ruin of many peoples,
    shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.

Habakkuk 2:16

You will be filled with shame instead of glory.
    Now it is your turn! Drink and let your nakedness be exposed!
The cup from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you,
    and disgrace will cover your glory.

Habakkuk 2:18

“Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman?
    Or an image that teaches lies?
For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation;
    he makes idols that cannot speak.

Habakkuk 2:19

Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’
    Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’
Can it give guidance?
    It is covered with gold and silver;
    there is no breath in it.”

"The cup from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you..."

Sounds like a bowl judgement to me.

They are "Bowl judgments"
 because they come quickly.
Like filling up a mixing bowl with water
and pouring it out all at once in your kitchen sink.
Happens kinda quick right?
Same thing here.

"The precedents just don't necessarily fit,
This is something that has moved with such speed:
I really can't think of another historical comparison."

(Matthew Costello
a White House Historical Association historian
and American University lecturer.)

"For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation..."

This is always the dead give away
that it's not gonna work or last.

People need to understand what was going on here.

Interest rates were so low after the great recession?
Companies were borrowing money and buying their own stock
so the stock price would go up.
The increase in the stock price
was more than enough to offset the cost of the loan.

So in effect...
They were borrowing paper
(Taking out a loan)
To buy more paper
(Stocks)
And then puffing their chest out and beating it
and saying look at us.
Look what we did.
Aren't we so great?

As I asked my preacher buddy:

"Whats the difference between that and
creating a golden calf?"

Nothing.
Thats what the difference is.

“I don’t think we’re ever going to lose money again,”

Doug Parker
American Airlines CEO
Sept, 2017.

Needs a bailout that probably wont be enough
to save his company less than three years later.

"We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable
just a short time ago,
and we are never going back!"

Trump in his state of the union address.
Feb 4th 2020.

Fools.

Isaiah 2:12

The Lord Almighty has a day in store
    for all the proud and lofty,
for all that is exalted
    (and they will be humbled),

Isaiah 2:17-18

The arrogance of man will be brought low
    and human pride humbled;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,
and the idols will totally disappear.
