The Great Oxmore Smoke Shoppe adventure.

Wanted to not be such a rookie around cigars lol.
Smoked a couple of nice ones here and there but mostly garbage swisher-sweets like dad did on occasion and such.
Anyway, watched some you-tube videos to educate myself a lil and then ventured my way to the Shoppe.
Took these pictures sitting on the bench outside.
Couldn't really remember where it was.
Got the right anchor store and it was a few stores down the hallway.
Place wasn't even listed in the directory lol.
I couldn't even remember if it was there or not.
Anyway, sat and listened to the end of Neil Young and Crazy Horse "Hey Hey My My" as I waited for a Hipster couple to leave.
Think about that.
Walking through the mall at Christmas time listening to Neil Young and Crazy Horse "Hey Hey My My", it was a lil surreal to say the least.
So I am taking pictures and I see something in the window.
I was like "What's that? Jackets? Fucking Smoking Jackets? Are you kidding me?". Got up and went and took a closer look at them.'
Really like the silver paisley one lol.
I make my entrance.

"Can I help you?"
I look at the window and look at him and say "Smoking Jackets? Are you kidding me? Smoking Jackets?"
Keep in mind now I'm in HD jacket, black sock cap etc.
"Oh yeah you need one of those."
"I do?"
"Oh yeah."
"Well I might just get one one day."
"You should."
"I think I might wanna start smoking cigars. Decent ones."
"Really?"
"Yep, I like good whiskey and I've been told they go together really well."
"Well now good whiskey and a good cigar is a really good match."
I'm walking around looking while were talking.
"I've been doing some reading."
"Really?
"Yep, something about mild Dominicans with a Connecticut wrapper?"
"Dominicans are a good place to start. Lots of bang for the buck."
We walk back into the huge Humidor, "I like the look of the short stubby ones."
"It's all about how you wanna do it. These just came in the other day, I had one yesterday, very good."
"All about the flavor right?"
"Right."
We get it and walk to the cash register and he shows me a pictograph of a good cut on the tip and gave me the tool to cut it with.
Nailed it.
He put it in a zip bag with matches that had a picture of Lyndon B. Johnson on them.
"Let me know, what you think."
"I sure will and I'll tell you what, if I decide I wanna box of something decent someday I promise you I'll come here."
"Fair enough."
"How long this place been here?"
(My very first trip to the Oxmoor Mall in Louisville was in 1979. I remembered this place from then.
It used to have a wooden Indian outside the door. I Promise you it did.
"Since 1977."
"How long you been here?"
"17 years."
"Wow. You gotta card?"
Hands me his card.
"I'll be seeing ya."
"Look forward to it."

Then I went home and smoked it after Alan left and the Cowboys had wrapped up beating the Eagles Sunday night.
Yeah I did :-).
Did some research on smoking jackets.
Didn't know a thing about them. Turns out they are oversized to fit over your other clothes. the idea is to keep the smoke and ash away from your regular clothes. Pockets for cigars etc.

"...made from velvet, silk, or both. It has a shawl collar and turn-up cuffs and toggle or button fastenings, or may simply be closed with a tie belt...When the Crimean War during the 1850s popularized Turkish tobacco in England, smoking gained in popularity. After dinner, a gentleman might put on a smoking jacket and retreat to a den or smoking room...Famous wearers included Cary Grant, Fred Astaire (who was buried in a smoking jacket), Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, the Third Doctor of Doctor Who, and Hugh Hefner..."
:-).

I just think it's cool lol.

You can cut a boy some slack you know?
Mommy and daddy for 15 years.
Wears on ya.

Peace.
It finally seems to be back.
Thank goodness.
Thank you.
Thank God.

Love you Lucy.

Check out Neil on the guitar lol.
