FIRSTFRUITS
People in the ancient Near East considered local or national deities to be owners of the land. In Israel, a portion of the initial harvest was given as an offering to God. These firstfruits (bikkûr) were partly used to provide the Lord's priests with food (Lev 2:14; Nu 18:12-14).

As in the harvest of souls that is coming.
God didn't sacrifice God to God.
God sacrificed his son for us.
The first fruits in this context can be seen as the true believers sacrifice to God of themselves.
First fruits as a portion of the initial harvest were to be without blemish, they were to be the best of the best one could offer.
